A theory, borrowed from cannabis research, that a plant's full mix of compounds can produce effects beyond what any single isolated molecule does alone.

Example: In one mouse study, whole Psilocybe argentipes mushroom extract reduced anxiety-like behavior more effectively than pure psilocybin alone — a hint that minor alkaloids like aeruginascin (see entry above) may matter more than their trace concentrations suggest.
