A monoterpene indole alkaloid found in the iboga plant (Tabernanthe iboga) and several other species, used industrially as a biosynthetic precursor for chemotherapy drugs like vinblastine and vincristine.

Example: It's a real commercial commodity — chronic shortages of the chemotherapy drugs it feeds into have pushed researchers toward engineering yeast cell factories to produce it at scale, entirely separate from its role in ibogaine's own biosynthesis in the same plant.
