Analog (Drug)

Pharmacology

A compound chemically related to a parent drug, close enough in structure to produce related (or deliberately different) effects.

Example: Tabernanthalog (see entry above) is an ibogaine analog engineered to keep the neuroplasticity effect while dropping the hallucinogenic and cardiac risk — one of several analog strategies companies use as an alternative to patenting the original molecule; see how CaaMTech applies the same idea to psilocybin.
